Roberto BENAVENTE
Rear-Admiral
President of the Chilean Section A.I.C.H.
Passing of Mrs. Solveig
ERIKSON of ALAND ISLANDS.
The Aland Islands Section informed of the death of Mrs. Solveig
ERIKSON, Honorary Member of that Brotherhood. She passed away on the 26th of July and her
funeral took place on the 14th of August in Mariehamn.
Mrs. ERIKSON was the daughter-in-law of the famous Finnish owner of
large sailing ships, Captain Gustaf ERIKSON. In her younger years she was a noted actress
in the theatre, dazzling with her beauty, character and attractive personality.
She came to Chile in 1992, participating in the inauguration of the
CAPE HORN Memorial where she left a wreath that she had made with wild flowers that she
had collected the previous day in Puerto Williams.
In 1995 she actively
participated in the 51st World Congress of the A.I.C.H. held in Valparaíso,
made a journey to Cape Horn aboard the naval ship AQUILES, and finally toured Torres del
Paine, a place of extraordinary natural beauty that rises majestically in the
Magellans region.
Mrs. ERIKSON was a friend much appreciated by the members of our
Brotherhood. Despite her advanced age and precarious state of health she was a very
active, enthusiastic person who always kept an open and friendly attitude to the members
of the Chilean Brotherhood.
Her passing has been much lamented by all of the Sections of
AMICALE. Our Brotherhood sent a heartfelt message of condolence to the President of the
Aland Islands Section, Captain Ingemar PALMER, and to the relatives of Mrs. ERIKSON, whose
personality will always be remembered among us.
